But the position became available after Bolton was appointed Hawthorn development coach and coach of its VFL partner, Box Hill.
``I'd be pretty keen to at least put my hat in the ring and see what happens from there,'' Blight said yesterday.
Blight has already accepted another assistant coaching role for next year with the Mariners.
``If I was lucky enough to get the Clarence coaching job, I'd probably forgo the Mariners involvement,'' he said.
``I just wouldn't have the time to put into both roles.''
Clarence president Richard Mulligan was tight-lipped on who had applied for the coaching job.
But he did confirm former Devils players Ben Setchell and Cameron Thurley had given a commitment to play with the Roos next season.
Both have been rumoured as possible coaches, but Mulligan would not say if they had applied.
``We have got a selection process in place and we hope to make an announcement reasonably soon after the closing date [this Friday],'' Mulligan said.
``We are very pleased for Brendon to go and coach at a higher level and we had already started pre-season with assistant coaches in place at the moment, so it hasn't been that disruptive.''
Mulligan did confirm Clarence supporters had unofficially approached former Sydney and Carlton player and North Launceston playing-coach David Rhys-Jones about the vacant job, but while interested, Rhys-Jones could not apply due to family commitments in Melbourne.
