Overview of Role:
The position of State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager, AFL Tasmania is expected to be a key role at Football Tasmania Limited (trading as AFL Tasmania).
The position of State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager, AFL Tasmania is to develop, implement and review a pre-season and in season strength and conditioning program for all of AFL Tasmania's state team programs;
- Tasmanian Devils VFL team
- Tassie Mariners and State U/18 program
- State U/16 program
- State U/15 program
- AFL Tasmania Academy
The expectation will be that every individual player in any of the above teams/programs will possess the appropriate level of strength and conditioning required to play at the required standard.
The State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager, AFL Tasmania, will be responsible and accountable for establishing the strength, conditioning and rehabilitation protocol for every element of AFL Tasmania's talent pathway program (inc. Devils).
The State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager is expected to provide leadership and expertise to AFL Tasmania management and coaching staff in the area of Australian Rules Football Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation.
The High Performance Manager (or General Manager) will be expected to provide strong levels of support and assistance to the State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager to ensure that he has access to sufficient resources to enable him to effectively and efficiently carry out his duties.
The State Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation Manager will be expected to develop strong relationships with all his key stakeholders (refer page one of this position description).
Duties:
1. Develop, deliver and review a high quality pre-season and in-season strength and conditioning program for all state team programs.
2. Develop and deliver effective strength and conditioning programs for the individual needs of specific players or groups of players identified by the football department.
3. Manage and review the rehabilitation programs for all injured players in conjunction with AFL Tasmania's key medical staff.
4. Manage the coordination of AFL Tasmania's medical and conditioning team (e.g. Doctors, Physiotherapist, Trainers, specialist conditioning staff etc) for all game day and training needs) across the state.
5. Assist the Football Department to attract, develop and retain suitably qualified support and specialist staff (state wide) that will appropriately assist all AFL Tasmanian' s state team programs (including the Academy players) the to achieve their collective and individual goals.
6. Work with all members of the Football Department and AFL Tasmania's three Regional Managers to ensure AFL Tasmania maintains an efficient and effective strength and conditioning program in all three regions.
7. Manage and administer the operational requirements for all Tasmanian Devils training sessions (in conjunction with the Head Coach and Player Welfare Manager).
8. Support (as directed by the General Manager) with any general football operational administrative requirements.
9. Participate in regular meetings with all Football Department personnel.
10. Provide advice to coaches and players throughout Tasmania on sport technological advances that have the potential to assist players' performances.
11. Collect and maintain physical preparation data in order to better understand players' development.
12. Record and disseminate information in a practical and usable form to coaches and players.
13. Other duties as requested - by the General Manager of AFL Tasmania.
Reporting:
- Reports to the High Performance Manager (or General Manager).
- Provide any other written reports or data to the High Performance Manager (or General Manager) and the Devils Head Coach and the State Manager, Coach Education & Player Welfare.
Financial/ Budget:
- To comply with AFL Tasmania finance policy and procedures.
Key Selection Criteria Mandatory
1. Possess the qualifications to develop, deliver and review strength and conditioning pre and in seasons programs in an Australian Football environment at the highest level.
2. Understanding of the strength and conditioning requirements of Australian Football players at the highest level.
3. Proven commitment to research and analysis.
4. Proven problem solving skills.
5. Ability to effectively and efficiently manage people.
6. Ability to build relationships with a varying range of people.
7. Very strong oral and written communication skills.
8. Broad network of people within the AFL football system (specifically in the strength and conditioning areas).
9. Capacity and willingness to work long hours, including weekends.
10. Computer literate - very strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (or equivalent programs).
11. Commitment to personal development.
12. Ability to learn quickly.
13. Holds a current drivers license.
Desirable:
- Experience in a similar role (any sport).
- Recently worked at an AFL Club.
- Current first aid certificate.
