Players from seven clubs have been named as the top ten vote winners for the 2012 Wrest Point State League’s top award, the Tassie Medal, which will be announced by AFL Tasmania on Grand Final Day at Aurora Stadium on Saturday September 22.
The clubs still harbouring a hope that one of theirs will win the TSL’s best and fairest award include Burnie, Lauderdale and South Launceston, each with two players in the running, while Clarence, Glenorchy and Launceston each have one.
While North Hobart has Zane Murphy in the top ten, he finds himself ineligible to win the Tassie Medal for the third year in succession, due to being suspended for a reportable offence during the season.
The winner will join the honour board along side Kurt Heazlewood (2009), Brett Geappen (2010), Tim Bristow (2011).
“Having seven clubs with players in the top ten for the Tassie Medal is a great reflection of the evenness of the Wrest Point State League,” said TSL General Manager, Shaun Young.
“The top 10 includes State League seasoned performers such as Luke Shackleton, Jason Laycock, Jaye Bowden and Jordan Harris along with a great array of young talent.
“We congratulate all the players in the top ten on an outstanding season. Whoever wins will be worthy of the honour as the TSL’s best and fairest player, and will rightly stand along side past winners Kurt Heazlewood, Brett Geappen and Tim Bristow.”
