The race for the Wrest Point State League’s top honour, the Tassie Medal, has been reduced to a final list of 20 vote getters from the initial list of 30 players revealed last week.
Seven clubs still have players in the running for the Tassie Medal, leaving only Devonport, Hobart and North Launceston without players with a chance to win the award that will be announced on Grand Final day, Saturday September 22.
Burnie and Lauderdale have the most players in the top 20 with four apiece. Clarence and Glenorchy have three players each in the running, while Launceston, North Hobart, and South Launceston have two each still in contention.
Next week the list will be cut to the final 10 leading into the 2012 Wrest Point State League Grand Final week.
TSL General Manager, Shaun Young, congratulated those players who had made it through to the top 20.
“The talent in the competition is terrific, and just to make it to the top 20 is a real achievement,” Young said.
“On behalf of the competition we also congratulate the players that made the top 30 and who have missed out on being named in the top 20. It is recognition well deserved as over 350 players have represented their clubs at senior TSL football this season, and to be acknowledged amongst the best in 2012 is no small feat.”
Past winners of the Tassie Medal, for the competition’s best and fairest player were Kurt Heazlewood (2009), Brett Geappen (2010) and Tim Bristow (2011).
