A team of ten unsung club heroes are in line to win AFL Tasmania’s prestigious 2012 Wrest Point State League Volunteer of the Year award.
Each club has provided a summary of their nominee’s length of service, a description on how important the volunteer is to on-going operations and a narrative that outlines the contender’s passion and commitment to their club.
Every volunteer associated with a TSL club, irrespective of their seniority in a club’s structure, was eligible for nomination.
The League’s management team will evaluate nominations and determine the winner.
In 2011, Raelene Giblin from the Launceston Football Club shared the award with Annette and Allan Richards from the Clarence Football Club.
The list of nominations are of a very high calibre, who contribute to tasks such as canteen preparation and raffle ticket selling, to offering their services as team managers and trainers.
All nominees have been invited to AFL Tasmania’s Wrest Point State League Grand Final luncheon on September 22, where the TSL General Manager, Shaun Young, will announce the winner.
State League General Manager, Shaun Young, said the award, which has been in existence since the inception of the TSL, is a crucial element in recognizing that volunteers are the heart and soul of a footy club.
“The TSL Volunteer of the Year award enables each TSL club to show their appreciation of the people behind the success of their club and thank them for what they bring to their community," Young said.
“The staff and management at AFL Tasmania also greatly appreciate the efforts of volunteers and the passion they have for their clubs and football.”
