On Sunday 8th April eight teams from the STJFL participated in the half-time activities at the inaugural AFL game at Blundstone Oval. Players from the newly admitted Richmond Junior Football Club showcased their talents against teams from Triabunna JFC, Lindisfarne JFC and Claremont JFC in Under 8 and Under 9 games.
More than 11000 spectators were also entertained by an U12 game during the half-time break by teams from Sandy Bay LJFC (Kangaroos strip) and Claremont JFC (GWS strip). The Claremont Bulldogs opened up a quick lead and though the Sandy Bay Lions fought back they could not bridge the gap in the allotted time.
The Clarence Cricket Centre was a temporary changeroom for a hundred excited junior footballers who were assisted by equally excited parents and coaches. All the players acquitted themselves well on the big stage in closer contests than the main spectacle provided.
New clubs and teams will be on show at the North Melbourne versus West Coast Eagles in July.
