The dream of an AFL career became a reality for two of Tassie’s State Academy players who were snapped up in last night’s NAB AFL National Draft.
Henry Schade, North Hobart, was selected in the first round at pick 24 for the Gold Coast Suns and Jimmy Webster, Glenorchy, was taken in round 2 selected 42 for St Kilda.
Schade and Webster were the only two players drafted from a team that competed in this year’s second division Australian under 18 National Football Championships of which the Tassie Mariners were premiers for the third time in four years.
Congratulations to both Henry and Jimmy. AFL Tasmania wishes you the best of luck with your AFL future.
There is still hope remaining for other Tassie potential draftees to be selected as a rookie in next month’s rookie draft. The rookie draft will take place on December 13 when Tassie hopefuls, Brody Mihocek, Ben Brown, Julian Dobosz, Daniel Joseph, John McKenzie, Dylan Riley, Michael Musicka and Larry Owen will find out their AFL fate.
