Table Tennis is a very popular sport throughout the Commonwealth and
as such, it is expected that the competition for medals at the
Melbourne Games in 2006 will be hotly contested.
The Table Tennis competition will see athletes contest singles (men
and women), doubles (men, women and mixed) and a team event across 11
days of competition. Elite Athletes with a Disabilty (EAD) will contest
a women's wheelchair singles event that is fully integrated into the
Melbourne 2006 Table Tennis Sports Program.
Singles and doubles events will involve a knockout draw, with the
best players progressing to the gold medal match, whereas the team
competition will have each competing nation play a round-robin format
before the best teams contest the medal rounds.

All matches will be held in accordance with the rules of the
International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and all matches are to be
held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).
Thanks to a proactive development program funded by the ITTF and the
ONOC, the standards of Table Tennis have risen dramatically throughout
the Pacific Islands and while Medal Chances are not considered as yet,
the fact is the largest contingent of Pacific Islands teams ever to
attend a Commonwealth Games will be in Melbourne in 2006.
