The last Sunday of Jun / Jul / Aug / Sep
7.00pm to 9.00pm
Purpose To develop a co-operative culture within the people running and teaching the game of basketball, to share and debate views, to workshop and up-skill fundamental coaching.
Format This will be developed over time, to suit the needs of the participants;
* The first meeting will present the "Understanding Basketball" framework. A three tiered approach, with a series of lesson plans on how to teach the game.
* Skill of the day - each meeting can workshop on the finer points of teaching a particular skill. First meeting will workshop on the skill of dribbling.
* Tech free time out - in a controlled debate, coaches and referees can argue some common issues regarding the interpretation of the game. First debate to focus on physicality in the post - what to teach, is it acceptable?
* Coaches' scrimmage or competition. Let's face it, we are all competitive. If time permits there is no reason why we can't end the evening trying out a little competition or game, for those who want to let off some steam.
* Guest team - invite a coach to bring in their team for a 45 minute session. Coach identifies problem area of their team. The Club comes up with drills to address those problems and we try them out. This won't be run on the first meeting.
Who can come The Basketball Club is open to anybody. All coaches from novice to experienced, coaches of kids to national league coaches are welcome. Although a large emphasis is placed on coaching aspects of the game, we encourage the participation of referees and others involved with the game (e.g. managers, scorebench).
Cost Two hours of your time, once a month!
