The 2009 Bendigo Youth Girls Grand Final was a replay of last year’s battle between Eaglehawk and Marong. Played at North Bendigo’s Atkins St ground in fine conditions, the game was an arm wrestle from the opening bounce. Marong kicked a goal early in the first quarter but couldn’t find the goals for the remainder of the game. With both teams working hard to have numbers at the contest, both teams struggled to move the ball deep inside their forward line. A goalless second quarter left Marong four points ahead at the main change. Eaglehawk seized upon a tiring Marong in the third term to take the lead by kicking two goals. The game was all over when Eaglehawk kicked a major in the last term to push ahead by fifteen points (3.7-1.4) and claim their second premiership in three years. Eaglehawk’s Michaela Perceval was named Best on Ground.
