After a great deal of hard work and patience, a four team northern Youth Girls competition will begin on Saturday July 26 at AH Capp Reserve in West Preston. Teams from Lalor Stars, Jacana, Darebin and St Damien's Junior Football Club will play off in an eight week competition. Whilst Lalor Stars and Jacana were quick to establish their playing list, Darebin and St Damian's are still seeking players to bolster their numbers. This is an exciting addition to the Youth Girls community, with teams now located in all pockets of Melbourne.
AFL Victoria's Youth Girls competition emphasises fun, fitness and friendship through football in a family friendly environment. Youth Girls players have the opportunity to represent not only their league, but also Victoria through AFL Victoria's talented player pathway. This pathway also includes AFL Victoria's Youth Girls Academy, which brings together some of Victoria's most promising underage players for specialised football and personal deveopment.
AFL Victoria will be seeking more clubs from Melbourne's northern region to enter the 2009 northern Youth Girls competition. For any club or school interested in establishing a Youth Girls team, the Youth Girls Club Information Guide can be downloaded below.
