GIRL POWER: Ashlee Taig, Heidi Turnbull and Amy Davis prepare for Victorian trials.
MORE than 60 girls from the fledgling Bendigo Female Football Competition's youth division will take part in a Victorian under-18 team selection trial on Sunday.
State coach Leeann Gill and talent scouts from the AFL Victoria's female football department will be at the California Gully Oval on Sunday to hand pick about 10 players from Bendigo for an extended squad.
Those picked will take part in several more trial sessions in Melbourne to be held later this month.
The 10 chosen will compete with about 50 other hopefuls from Melbourne clubs to be included in a 25-player Victorian squad, which will head to Brisbane next month.
Victoria will play Queensland on September 22 and 24.
In its inaugural year, Bendigo's female youth division has three clubs - Eaglehawk, Marong and North Bendigo - and already more than 70 registered players.
Three of those players, North Bendigo's Ashlee Taig, Marong's Heidi Turnbull and Eaglehawk's Amy Davis were yesterday preparing to give the trials a red hot go.
