The 2007 South East Footy Pak kicked off today in sunny conditions at Casey Fields.
Newcomers Noble Park were welcomed into their first Youth Girls' season in an enthralling battle against Narre Warren. Whilst Narre Warren's experience showed in the first quarter and eventually was critical in getting them over the line, Noble Park showed much improvement throughout the course of the game, giving the excited crowd a glimpse of what to expect over the year.
Hallam faced the first of Narre South's two teams on Oval 3. Hallam was dominant throughout the game in the forward line, however both teams' midfields fought long and hard in what became a torrid arm wrestle over control of the ball. Hallam's forward depth was the difference in the end, leading them to a convincing victory.
Both of last year's grand finallists met in round one representing new clubs of East Malvern (Sacre Coeur) and Pearcedale Baxter (Berwick). East Malvern's short preparation was apparent early in the game, however, they worked better as the game wore on. Pearcedale Baxter showed that their players had only improved over summer and their win today will lock them in as early favourites to win the 2007 Footy-Pak Cup.
