The Victorian Under 18 Youth Girls team claimed game one of the third Interstate Challenge, with a 43 point victory over Queensland. In sweltering conditions, the Victorians started slowly as Queensland ran the ball early to kick the opening goal. The Victorians fought back, peppering the goals with little success until very late in the quarter. With great run and team work from both sides, the second quarter was an arm wrestle. Victoria's inaccuracy and Queensland's pressure meant that visitors only held a ten point lead at the main break. With better structure and run, the Victorians created a faster and more free flowing second half that saw them open up a four goal lead at the last break, before breaking away in the last to claim a forty-three point win.
