Victorian Youth Girls participation is the greatest in the country, with 455 girls playing in 19 teams across 3 competitions in 2007. The aim is to increase that figure to 650 next year and reach 1000 participants by the end of the decade.
2007 YOUTH GIRLS PLAYER SURVEY
A Youth Girls evaluation of all competitions was conducted and a report will be out in January detailing the results. YG players are enjoying the competition greatly and their love for the game is very apparent. Many are requesting longer seasons and so AFL Victoria is now working to provide extra rounds for each competition.

2008 INITIATIVES
We are hoping to introduce a northern and outer eastern competition next year, which will ensure that every girl in metropolitan Melbourne has a Youth Girls team to play in within 20 minutes of her home. We will continue to expand the Talented Player Pathway next year, with the introduction of a new Youth Girls Academy for our most promising 35 Youth Girls and our talented developing umpires. The Victorian Championships will be expanded to include the Bendigo and any new competitions next year and will be looking to recruit our inter-league coaches and team managers from within our competition. We will be hosting the Queensland u18 team in Victoria next year as well as two school girls teams from Western Australia and Queensland. Additionally, we'll be looking at offering clubs the opportunity to play VFL and VWFL curtain raisers.
2008 RULE CHANGES
AFL Victoria's Youth Girls Competition Executive met recently for the annual review of the Youth Girls competition. This is an important process as the Youth Girls competition is still in its infancy. Our aim is to bring as many girls as possible to football and ensure that the development needs of ALL girls are catered for, as well as providing as many Youth Girls competitions as is needed across Victoria. There have been some rule changes made which are listed below.
