Gippsland’s hot form continued, downing Northern by 41 points at Preston. The Power utilised a hefty gale in the first term to establish a 40-point lead and fared better when kicking into the wind. The Power’s Jed Lamb was damaging on a wing and up forward (five goals). Taylor Veal collected 24 disposals for the Knights.
Western was outplayed on the Gold Coast by 93 points. The Jets were in touch at half-time but fell away after the break and conceded 12 goals. Jet players Scott Sherlock (20 touches) and Jesse Fortune (18 possessions) persisted, gathering their share of the contested ball.
League leader Geelong held Oakleigh to just four goals on its way to a comprehensive 75-point win. Hard-running midfielder Joseph Dare lead the way with 30 disposals and Ben Cunnington kicked four goals from 22 possessions. Matthew Lello was best for the Chargers.
Dandenong stamped itself as a premiership contender with an impressive 61-point victory over North Ballarat. The Rebels lead by eight points midway through the third term but were swamped by an eight-goal final quarter. The win moved the Stingrays into outright second position and was orchestrated by Levi Casboult in the ruck (21 hit outs and two goals) and Luke Parker (32 possessions). Liam Hoy was a standout player for the Rebels.
A brilliant game from Jake Melksham steered Calder to a 24-point win over Bendigo at Coburg. The Cannons shook off the Pioneers with a seven-goal to two third term. Melksham collected 35 disposals, took 18 marks and kicked two goals and teammate Andrew Duhau was busy with 27 possessions. Matt Gilmore battled hard for the Pioneers.
Eastern Ranges proved too hot for Sandringham to handle, cruising to a 59-point triumph. Eastern’s Ryan Wilson starred with 31 touches and eight marks and Joshua Dyson slotted three majors from 28 disposals. Tyson Mitchem was prominent for Sandringham with 28 touches and goal.
Round 16 of the TAC Cup sees northern suburbs showdown between Calder and Northern at Coburg, Bendigo plays Murray at Golden Square, Geelong takes on Dandenong at Skilled Stadium in a top-two clash and Western battles Sandringham. On Sunday, North Ballarat faces the Gold Coast and Gippsland hosts Oakleigh at Morwell. Eastern has a break.
