Team Awesome edged out Blenheim City Thunder to claim the men's title when the Marlborough Basketball Association's pre-season three-on-three competition wrapped up with the final two rounds at Marlborough Lines Stadium on Thursday night.

Blenheim City Thunder were leaders heading into the sixth and seventh round matches.

However, Team Awesome jumped into top spot after round six when they won all three of their matches against Marlborough State Warriors, and Blenheim City Thunder had a win, loss and draw against Brick Layers. In round seven, Team Awesome had three wins over Airbornes 3.0 and Blenheim City Thunder did the same against Runna Runna Flush.

Team Awesome (57) held on to secure top honours by one point.

Brick Layers finished third, a further five points behind Blenheim City Thunder.

Meanwhile, BWMC Hornets took out the mixed grade title.

BWMC Hornets beat Swag 12-5, beat Rebels 10-7, beat United 9-7, lost to United 10-13. United beat Swag 13-10, lost Rebels 5-7, lost BWMC Hornets 7-9, beat BWMC Hornets 13-10.

Round seven - Men's: Team Awesome bt Airbornes 3.0 19-8, 14-7 & 15-9. Blenheim City Thunder beat Runna Runna Flush 11-5, 15-7 & 23-13. Brick Layers bt Mad Dogs 14-7, 9-6, drew with Mad Dogs 9-9. Marlborough State Warriors beat Monkey Eating Eagle 12-6, 9-5 & 15-14. Mixed: Rebels beat Swag 12-5, drew with Swag 10-10, 13-13. BWMC Hornets lost to United 4-5, beat United 8-3, 9-7.
