U13 Girls Premiership in Dunedin...

Marlborough Under 13 Girls Premiership Tournament.

Dunedin, Edgar Centre.

July 23rd – 25th 2010.

 

 

 

The U13 Girls team travelled to Dunedin for the 3 day Tournament.  The tournament was a first for many of the girls with the team finishing in the top 8, improving on their initial seeding of 12th.

 

Game 1  v Southland – Win 44-37.

Seeded 12th at the beginning of the tournament, Marlborough fought hard to win an exciting first up game against 5th seed Southland.  Centre forward Rachel Vis lead Marlborough, top scoring with 14pts.  Annaliese Raemaki 9pts and Oriana Houra 7pts.

Game 2 v Mid-Canterbury – Lost 75-12.

Played eventual tournament winners, Mid-Canterbury, Rosanna Buchanan-Brown stepped up to top score with 4pts in a one sided game win to M.Canterbury who eventually cruised through to easily win the tournament.

Game 3 v Buller – Win 41-22.

The last pool game proved to be the game where Olivia Hodson continually drove the basket to top score with 17pts, Taylah Weaver played tirelessly on defence with top rebounds and Kiriana Andrews impressed with her speed on the fast break.  Kate Lindstrom had a solid defensive game.

Game 4 v Nelson – Lost 70-33.

The score in this game is not an indication of how the girls played.  Emma Trolove played her best game yet, stepping up to mark Nelson guard and playmaker Merekara McGinniety.  Emma played outstanding defence and totally shutting down McGinniety.  Trolove easily top scored for Marlborough with 10pts.

Harriet Greenslade was unrelenting with her efforts on defence with countless steals and numerous disruptions to Nelsons attacking flow.  Nelson were eventual tournament runners up.

Game 5 v Central Otago Lost 55-50

Narrow lost to Central Otago who finished 3rd in the tournament.  Annaliese Raemaki top scored with 14pts, Emma Trolove with 11pts, Rachel Vis 8pts and Oriana Houra with 7pts.  Annaliese Raemaki and Emma Trolove again stepped up to make positive contribution on offence, hitting the boards accurately in a hard fought game with Central Otago, taking it out at the end of the 4th quarter.

Game 6 v South Canterbury Lost 48-31.

Last game proved elusive to Marlborough as they went into the game with three injured players.  Unable to hold out South Canterbury in the 3rd & 4th quarters.  Oriana Houra 13pts and Harriet Greenslade on 8pts, top scored, however all round team effort.
