Appliance Shed Harbour Heat vs Waikato Pistons

HEAT PREPARE FOR TOUGH RUN HOME

The Appliance Shed Harbour Heat plays their final home game of the regular season this Thursday night at the North Shore Events Centre when the table topping Waikato Pistons come to town.

It is the start of a tough three game stretch to end the regular season with away games against second placed ecogise Nelson Giants and the third placed Century City Wellington Saints still to come before the play offs.

But Heat Coach Tony Webster wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Our middle part of the season has put us behind the 8 ball with regards a home play off game and while it is still possible, we can only go about our business and concentrate on winning each game, one at a time.

“But regardless of who and where we play in the play offs we couldn’t ask for better preparation than to play the top three in the league. The Pistons are a strong side without any obvious weakness but we are confident we can mix it with them and prove our credentials ahead of the post season.”

Webster’s side is on a current 4 game winning streak but knows they must take that to 5 with a win over the Pistons on Thursday to maintain any outside chance of a home semi final.

Play off basketball is already guaranteed though and with the Heat improving each week of late with the addition of new talent such as Mike Bell, Prem Krishna and BJ Anthony, they are emerging from a mid season slump as dark horse contenders for the title this year.

Webster says the key to a win on Thursday is a strong all round showing from his side, one that goes deep into the bench.

“Our depth is as good as anyone in the league and it is often players 7, 8 and 9 that can turn games with good minutes. We have been fortunate that in recent weeks we have been able to share the workload and run a number of players into a little form, that could be critical on Thursday night.”

Fans can be assured of a high quality game of basketball with the likes of rising Breakers star Tom Abercrombie and Tall Black veteran Pero Cameron (both Pistons) going head to head with the NBL’s leading scorer Corey Webster and the energy man of the league in Mychal Green.
