HARBOUR HEAT HEAD TO V8 COUNTRY

The Appliance Shed Harbour Heat makes the trip down State Highway One tomorrow to take on the highly regarded Waikato Pistons in the NZ Community Trust National Basketball League.

They will do so in good spirits despite losing their last game in Christchurch against the league leading Cougars. Coach Tony Webster says his players showed they have what it takes to mix it with the best in the league.

We have made an acceptable start to the season, nothing more and nothing less. The road game against the Cougars was our toughest so far against a side that was well organised and had options inside and out. While the result wasnt what we wanted, the performance was good and I couldnt fault the effort or the attitude of the guys.

Waikato will be just as tough, maybe tougher given their longer history in the league. The key for us now is to keep improving and win some of these close ones. The league is going to be very competitive so games like this almost count for double against another play off contender.

Webster will have a full roster to choose from, albeit Dan Ryan is still at least another week away from his first appearance of the season after undergoing knee surgery in the summer.

Along with the return of forward Ryan is the highly anticipated return of BJ Anthony. The power forward is due back from Germany next week and will give Webster and the Heat some much need inside presence, along with his outside shooting game.

Imports Chaz Spicer and Mychal Green are increasing their influence on games as they become more familiar with the team plays, with Spicer showing his commitment to the cause playing the entire 40 minutes in the loss to the Cougars.

For now though, the Heat is focused on the Pistons on Thursday looking to add further to their 4 and 2 start to the season.
