Numbers Reach 115 at Holiday Camp

Just ask the 115 campers who had such a great time this week at the North Shore Event Centre. The Harbour Basketball Holiday Camp was the largest basketball camp on the North Shore since 2004 and everyone from campers to coaches and staff had a blast. Each camper received a newly designed camp t-shirt, Subway lunch, certificate, skills check list and over half the campers won a prize! The Kings Lounge became the camp HQ with Basketball DVD’s and cartoons running on the projector at lunch times, as well as many games being on offer to keep campers busy during their breaks.

Development Officer Alex Stojkovic had the following to say about the camp, “We were literally overwhelmed by the demand for this camp and had to change venue just to accommodate everyone. The feedback has been awesome, the kids loved the newly designed t-shirts, Subway lunches and the many prizes we had up for grabs. Making sure that everyone has a great time is our most important objective and we need to further refine some processes for the next camp. Those are mainly small things like a more streamlined registration on the first day of camp, but it will just further add to the quality of the camp. Overall I am just excited about the great success of the camp.”

The campers were coached by some of Harbour Basketball finest representative team players and were overseen by one of our most experienced coaches, Tony Pompallier.

Tony made the following remarks; “I was really proud of our coaches, or as we prefer to call them leaders. All of them have played for New Zealand age group teams and they really worked hard during the camp. The kids were fantastic and we really started to bond. At the end of the day we want to create a family atmosphere where everybody feels included and has fun and I feel we achieved that this week. A highlight for me was the group performances the campers put on during the last day, they were very creative and funny!” We will put together a highlight video for the website that will include some of the more memorable performances.

Harbour Basketball CEO Trevor Johnston added, “Alex, Tony and Glenda have done a wonderful job putting this camp together. Every time I walked into the gym the place was pumping. It is great to see such a large number of children attending the camp and hopefully we can build on this and continue to provide quality programmes for our stakeholders.”

Harbour Basketball is possibly looking to run a camp just before Christmas, so please check the website regularly for updates.
