One Taranaki team has so far made the semifinals of the secondary schools' zone 3 basketball tournament being held in New Plymouth this week.  New Plymouth Boys' High School have beaten Tawa College, Hastings Boys' High School and Napier Boys' High School, to make the semis and will play St Patrick's College in a bid to make the tournament finals. 

Francis Douglas Memorial College have made the top eight teams in the competition and still have a chance to secure a spot at next month's national secondary schools' tournament in Nelson. 

All three Taranaki girls' teams - Hawera High School, New Plymouth Girls' School and Sacred Heart Girls' College - have performed well in the pool games and are in a good position to make Nationals.
