U15 Girls take Zone 3 title - The WOW factor on Finals Day

Four games, four wins on the final day of the U15 Premierships played in Napier this weekend.

The Girls Development team were playing for their first win of the tournament, the Boys were playing a 'do or die' game against TCB to qualify for the National Tournament to be held in Wellington in October and the Girls A team were playing for glory of being number 1 in the region.

Girls A:

The Girls A were clinical in both the approach and execution of their finals game against the tournament hosts Hawkes Bay. Both teams were top of their respective pools and both gained automatic entry to the Nationals through their success. The finals game was playing for the glory of being number one in the region. The only time Hawkes Bay looked like they were in the game was during the early stages of the first quarter but after that it was New Plymouth all the way.

Hawkes Bay had no answer to the smothering defense and great offensive teamwork that the NP girls displayed.  The final score was 72-43 in favour of our girls. Coach Eileen Hall can now look forward to a favourable seeding at the National Tournament to be held in Wellington during the next school holidays.

Boys A:

The local derby against the TCB boys was always going to be played with a high level of intensity as they both vied for one of the top four qualifying positions. NP were too good though and built a steady margin during the game taking a comfortable win in the end 80-48.

With the Nationals spot in the bag they then had to play off against Porirua to determine final placings at the tournament and seedings for the Nationals. The lead ebbed and flowed through out the first three periods with Porirua leading by 4 at half time. The pressure was too great though and NP boys took 3rd place in the tournament with Porirua succumbing in the fourth period and NP boys taking the game 64-43.

Girls Development:

The Girls Development team have shown great teamwork and passion over the tournament weekend. They were facing a Palmerston North Development team and were presented with a golden opportunity to get the big 'W' of the weekend. Much like the boys, they were too good for their rivals and secured a comfortable win 64-46 over their Palmy cousins.

Summary:

The Association is very proud of our rep team achievements over the weekend and pass on our sincere congratulations to all those involved. They were great ambassadors to the city and we look forward to following their achievements at the National Tournament.
