Age Group Success at the Nationals - Hornby Makes Tournament Team

New Plymouth teams enjoyed success over the Queen’s birthday weekend after all four of the U17 and U19 age group teams played in the BBNZ National Tournaments held in Tauranga and Dunedin.

The U17 Women’s Team, coached by Willie Banks, fought it out for 4th spot against a tenacious Waitakere West losing 61-73 in their 3rd and 4th play off at the tournament in Tauranga. The U19 Women’s team coached by Trent Adam, also placed 4th after going down 51-96 against a tough Harbour team hailing from the home of the breakers on the north shores of Auckland.

Both the men’s teams did well with the U17’s, coached by Linda Giddy, placing 10th in a final game against Nelson going down 43-76 to them after beating them in their 1st round game on Day 1. The U19 Men’s, coached by Andy Cowie, came in at a credible 6th place achieving its highest ever placing going down to Wellington 48-85 in the playoff for 5th and 6th in Dunedin.

National U17 representative, Monique Hornby achieved another accolade when she was recognized for her contribution during the tournament and was selected in the U19 Women’s tournament team.
