BBNZ Secondary School Nationals Day 4

NPBHS beat Wellington College 88-59 in the quarter finals of the BBNZ National Secondary School tournament in Palmerston North today. At the end of the first period New Plymouth held a slim lead up 22-19. They came out firing in the second and third periods and Wellington had no answer to New Plymouths full-on defense and ability to shoot both from the outside and under the basket.

At half time the lead was 39-28 and they stretched this out to 66-39 at the end of the third. Dave Bublitz alternated between his starters and the bench and stretched the lead to 29 by the end of regular time.

Last time NPBHS were in this position was in 1989 when Coach David Bublitz played and Angelo Hill coached. At that tournament, they ended up fourth after losing their semi-final 54-53. Dave won't want a repeat of that this year.

New Plymouth meet up against Auckland Grammar for the finals spot on Friday. Last time they played Grammar it was in Auckland earlier in the year and the Boys came back from a 15 point deficit to win 81-80 on the buzzer.
