Rebounding King Returns

The OceanaGold Nuggets are pleased to announce the return of American import forward Antoine Tisby for the 2010 National Basketball League.

Tisby, 26, had an outstanding season for the Nuggets in 2008, averaging an impressive double-double, with 24.2 points and 10.8 rebounds in 11 games.

Tisby’s efforts on the boards saw him secure the Garry Pettis Memorial Trophy as the NBL’s leading rebounder in 2008.

Basketball Otago are pleased Tisby has chosen to return to the franchise after having offers from other New Zealand franchises and teams abroad. Tisby's decision reinforces the feeling the structure in place in Dunedin is one worth being part of.

“Antoine has already proven he can be very successful in the NBL," first-year Nuggets coach Alf Arlidge said.

"His rebounding and ability to score against multiple defenders will again be of great value to the team. Antoine’s experience around the globe and his work ethic will also see him be a great mentor for our young local players.”

Other players confirmed for the OceanaGold Nuggets for 2010 include a host of young players, Junior Tall Blacks Riki Buckrell and Tom Rowe, Hayden Miller, James Ross, and former Nelson Giant and Christchurch Cougar Sam To’omata.

Open trials for the 2010 OceanaGold Nuggets will be held on January 23-24, from 9am at the Edgar Centre, Dunedin.

The Nuggets first game of the NBL season is on the road against the Auckland Stars on March 4, with the first home game on March 13 against the Christchurch Cougars.
