Year 3 Miniball Rules and Regulations

 

Competition Overview

  • This is a 3x3 Miniball competition for Year 3 students.
  • Designed to encourage fun, development, and teamwork.
  • Weekly games will be played in Term 4 on Tuesday evenings.

 

  • Skills & Drills Nights: Tuesday 9th September and Tuesday 16th September. (end of term 3)
  • Game Nights: Tuesday 7th October – Tuesday 2nd December.
  • Venues: EA Networks Centre and NBS Oxford Street Stadium.

 

Format

  • Teams Consist of 6-8 Players
  • On game nights, teams will be split into two smaller 3 or 4 -player teams, each playing two 12-minute games (half court, 3x3 format).
  • Games run back-to-back with teams swapping opponents after the first game.
  • Emphasis is placed on equal play time, learning the game, and having fun.

 

Team Requirements

  • Each team must have a Coach and a Manager.
  • Coaches act as referees, supporting players on the court in a guiding and encouraging role. The Manager helps roll the subs equally
  • If a team cannot find a coach, Basketball Mid Canterbury can assist by supporting parents, caregivers, or senior students willing to help.
  • Teams must consist of Year 3 students only.

 

Uniform and Equipment

  • Teams should wear matching tops or PE uniforms – numbers are not required
  • Mouthguards are mandatory for ALL players
  • Teams must bring their own warm up balls
  • Game Balls will be provided by Basketball Mid Canterbury

 

Jewellery Policy

  • All jewellery must be removed before players take the court.
  • This includes watches, rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and any spiritual or religious items.
  • Players will not be permitted to play if jewellery is not removed to ensure safety for all participants.

 

Game Rules

  • Games are played under modified 3x3 Miniball rules tailored to Year 3 players. (Please see the Yr3 Miniball Game rules PDF)
  • Refereeing is done by the team’s coach, who should guide and assist players positively.
  • Scores will be taken but is not officially recorded – the focus is on enjoyment and development.
    • We keep the scores so we can schedule similar teams against each other

 

Conduct

  • Coaches, players, and supporters are expected to uphold positive sideline
    behaviour.
  • Verbal abuse, negativity, or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.
  • Basketball Mid Canterbury reserves the right to remove any player, coach, or team if behaviour is inappropriate or unsafe.

 

Game Time Requests

  • If a team has specific game time requests (e.g. due to other school activities or coach availability), the competition organiser must be informed at least 1 week prior to the scheduled game.
  • Game time changes are not guaranteed and are subject to venue and draw constraints.
  • Last-minute requests (within 7 days) may not be accommodated.

 

Weekly Draws

  • Weekly draws will be released by the Friday before each game night.
  • Draws will be posted on the Basketball Mid Canterbury GameDay website
    • The link is in the information email
    • It is each team's responsibility to check the draw in time for their scheduled games.

 

Complaints

  • Any complaints regarding games, conduct, or organisation must be submitted in writing to operations@basketballmc.co.nz within 48 hours of the incident.
  • Complaints should include details such as date, time, involved parties, and a clear description of the issue.
  • Basketball Mid Canterbury will review all complaints promptly and make decisions at their discretion.
  • Decisions made by Basketball Mid Canterbury regarding complaints are final.
