“Merger of 2 Great Basketball Associations – the Future of Basketball in the West”

Announcement :

“Merger of 2 Great Basketball Associations – the Future of Basketball in the West”

It is with great excitement and pleasure to announce that the boards of West Auckland Basketball and Basketball Waitakere City have agreed that it is in the best interests of the future of basketball in the region to form one association.

We want to continue to serve and grow our kids and adults that play and love the game of basketball at all levels, competitively or just for FUN!!!

It is collectively felt that combining resources will:

-          Provide better opportunities for the training and development of athletes, coaches and officials

-          Improve our ability to offer continued quality competition and development to athlete age groups and programmes which would struggle for sufficient numbers if divided

-          Avoid duplication of effort in administration and governance activities

-          Improve the ability of basketball to financially sustain itself through increased participation, reduced duplication of effort

-          Provide a singular voice for the region to important stakeholders including facilities providers, schools, funding organisations and the wider basketball community

-          The ability to host more tournament and major basketball events with 8 courts

-          Allow for better co-ordination and delivery of In-Schools coaching to increase participation levels and grow our club members at all levels of competition and representation.

The boards of the associations will work together over the next 30 days to complete the formalities necessary to achieve this goal.

We look forward to a smooth transition for the betterment and well being for all basketball players and fans and supporters. Please watch this space as we will keep you all informed as we progress towards a unified approach towards making our new association the best and strongest in the New Zealand !!.

Regards

Basketball Waitakere City & West Auckland Basketball Association
