Emerging Juniors Announced:

Basketball New Zealand has confirmed its Emerging Junior Tall Blacks and Emerging Junior Tall Ferns teams to contest the FIBA Oceania U17 Championships in August.

Three members of the New Zealand U18 team at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival - James Ashby, Michael Karena and Kirk Rangiawha - highlight the boys team, coached by Waikato’s Doug Courtney.

Steven Adams, MVP as he led Wellington to the title at the BBNZ U17 National Championships in early June, has been added to the squad of 12 that also includes U17 tournament team selections Ashby, Karena, Tim Wyatt, Alonzo Burton and Tom Ingham.

Girls U17 MVP Josie Stockill, of Hawke’s Bay, joins Waikato’s Georgia Agnew and Counties Manukau’s Aleesha Coulter as tournament team selections in the Emerging Junior Tall Ferns, coached by Rotorua’s Sue Pene.

The Emerging Junior Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns, effectively New
Zealand’s U17 national teams, will both face Australia in a three-game
series in Brisbane from August 20-22 to decide the Oceania zone’s
representative at the FIBA U17 World Championships next year.
