I just wanted to advise you that the Westlake/Kelston boys Premier Basketball Game on Friday night (at Massey High School) was terminated at the end of the first quarter due to an issue with a light in the gymnasium which was overheating and starting to smoke (I think that was the problem). The fire alarm went off half way through the first quarter and we were evacuated for approximately 20 minutes. Then the game resumed however a decision was made at the end of the quarter that it was still not safe. I imagine you will receive a report from the Venue Controller regarding this. My query was regarding the media report which I assume you won’t be needing under these circumstances. Please can you confirm. Thank you.

RANGI BOYS vs ONEHUNGA HS

Final score Rangi (94) - Onehunga HS (72)

Rangi and Onehunga came into this game as two of the only three teams unbeaten in the Premier League after two rounds. Once again Rangitoto siezed an early lead from some fast breaks and accurate shooting from point positions. Rangi led thoughout maintaining a 12 - 15 point spread until late in the third quarter when Onehunga mounted a comeback and got within 8. However, Rangi's 3 point shooting widened the differential again with 36 points from 3 pointers !!

Players of note were ;

Marko Alexander - top point scorer with 26 points.

Stefan Mandic 16 points - managed the game well as point guard, made some crucial 3 pointers and was excellent at defensive rebounding.

Aaron Young also with 16 points and 4 three pointers.

Leonard Zinn with 18 points.

Andy Chan  played well in the final quarter defensively and scored some well executed driving baskets.

Massey Girls 77 vs Northcote Girls  63

Mesha Blair top scored for the Massey Girls team with a career high 46 points from the starting centre. She was well assisted from her captain Chevannah Paalvast with some spectacular blocks and passes into Mesha. Aroha Lawrence top scored for Northcote with 28 points as the tenacious guard was unstoppable with her drives to the basket. In the end Mesha Blair’s inside presence was just too strong for the visitors as Massey registered their first win of the season.
