3 BIG WINS OVER THE WEEKEND AT INTERCITY

Under 17 boys "A" Waitakere Vs Massey

"Kia re te…….Kia re te……….Kia mo!!"

Was the chant as the stadium went quiet, Waitakere with 30 strong walked on to the court and laid down the challenge to Massey which was accepted. As the challenge progressed the teams stood toe to toe with muscles flexing and piercing steers which showed the crowd that this was the beginning of something special. Lead by and written by one of Waitakeres own Graham Hohapata surged forward pressing Massey to eruption, with intimidating taunts and bellowing calls, Massey had no answer and had to stand and injure the sheer size of Waitakere's Challenge. With the final actions of the HAKA it was game on. Waitakere was pumped and ready to do battle as time has told Massey was not going to be easy. Massey came out firing with jenking guards with  lightning speed which tore through Waitakere's defence scoring at will. 10 points down at quarter time, Waitakere had to step up or face defeat, team Captain Luke Taikoko rallied his team and led by example by driving the lane and dominating the boards, but that wasn't enough as Massey sent out their guards and with percision ran our forwards raggered. It was time for Waitaker to pull out the big guns, enters Vala "get out of my way" Tagaloa scoring 6 points in a space of 2 mins. Waitakere were coming back and no-one was going to stop them. It was time to turn up the heat with 2 of the most explosive guards in the tournament Jed "Rocket" Evangelista and Alvic "Kamakazee" Labagala exerting extreme pressure on the ball, turning the ball over at will and bedazzling Massey with fast breaks and pin point jumpshots. Massey was running out of time and were 10 points behind. Again Waitakere were determined that this was their day. Final whistle Waitakere 68 -  Massey 55. The tide had finally turned with Waitakere winning their first Intercity Title for 2008 and walking away "Intercity Champions".

"Awesome effort boys…1 down …..2 to go…………Well Done.

Under 17 boys "B"   Waitakere Vs Counties "A"

In the huddle,,,,,,"Final game boys….let's have some fun and go out with a win."

"Waitak" was the call. The boys seemed relax and ready for a game. Counties came out firing with shear size and skill. Waitak answered the call by running sideline breaks with ease causing Counties to rethink their strategies. Waitak threw everything and anything at Counties trying to break down their defence. Counties surged forward with ease with countless attacks and scoring at will. Captain Marin " The Enforcer" Hakaraia penetrated hard and fired all cannons landing 5 ….3 point bombs from the outside to peg back the deficit. With Walter " Can't catch me" Upoko bringing up the ball executing precision passing and dazzeling dribbling confused the defence into submission seemed to make time stand still allowing Hakaraia to score with ease. Counties came back and it was like a game of table tennis with Counties scoring only for Waitak to pull it back. With time running out Counties continued with their barrage of attack making Waitak surcum to the pressure. Counties 70 - Waitak 58.

" Great game guys………well done with you efforts ………let's get ready for the regionals".
