Waitakere Vs Harbour Maroon

Another epic battle was fought on the weekend with Waitakere taking it to Harbour Maroon. It was going to a battle of the Titans with Harbour always being a force to be reckoned with. The Game was tight from start to finish with Harbour striking first with a 10 point lead in the first quarter. Waitakere was down but not out with it's supporters sideline beckoning for a revival and taunting the tune of the Waitakere armada. The challenge was laid down and it was up to the teams captain Luke Taikoko to embrace the challenge. Instructions from coach Murphy was one of pride, hunger and discipline. With these few words brought strength and determination as James Glucina took up the challenge and powered home with 7 huge blocks and 15 points along with Vala "Get out of my way" Tagaloa  stopping everything in the key, this was set up to be one of the greatest come backs ever seen. 2 mins to go 47 all it was down to our small men Jed Evangelist and Tariq Hassif to bring it home. With shear speed and skill the guards set up Aaron Masters for a thrilling finish, 30 seconds to go Jed sets up a final run with Tariq Hassif ready and waiting to pop the 3 when all of a sudden enters Aaron Marsters with a cut to the hoop, in goes the pass, Marsters palms the ball and drives to the hoop   ...Foul!! ....calls the referee ....basket counts ....1 shot to come.  The crowd goes nuts with cheers and realises what the team has just done ....taking out one of the top teams Harbour Maroon with an ecstatic win 50 - 47.

Waitakere Vs Auckland

Waitakere was set for a hard battle against Auckland after 'going down to Auckland the week before. The boys were focused but still had the weight of the loss recently suffered. Auckland were ready and were confident with the knowledge that they had the win and had the size of players posting 5 players over 6'5". A daunting task at hand but the boys were equal to the challenge. Lead by Marin Hakaraia the team fought hard and at half time the score showed just how hard with Auckland with a slight lead of 32 - 25. The second half was filled with anticipation and desperation until the smallest man on the court Pheonix "The Hit Man" Taulilo-Makaea displayed a Jordan like block against a 6'6" giant causing mayhem on the bench....the block was good the ref said play on....to goliath's surprise david had cast the first stone which struck with accuracy and force leaving the big man bewildered and stunned. The boys fought hard but had to submit to the shear size and power of the Auckland squad. The final score 72 - 30
