Under 17 Boys Intercity Report

Under 17 Boys A's

The boys had a tough battle on their hands taking on the formiddable force of Counties Manukau Black. In recent weeks Counties Manukau proved to be a force to be reakoned with. Led by Captain Luke Taikoko it was going to be tough battle down low with the constant barrage of elbows and body checks the game was on coarse for a major collision. For the greater part of the game it was touch and go. Coach Murphy with all his experience and wisdom inspired the boys to victory with a scoreline of 48 - 45 at full time. Game standouts  were Daniel Jenkin and Aaron Asi-Marsters pushing the team to there limits to secure the win. The team was spurred on by it's ever present supporters and injured post-man Lucky Graham.

"A huge thanks to our great supporters and families"

Under 17 Boys B's Vs North Harbour White

With 2 games to contend with the day was going to be a long one. The boys were in good spirits on arrival until they saw their first team of competition...."North Harbour White". They looked ominous with towering height and skill to boot, the task at hand looked bleak. Led by team captain Marin Hakaraia the boys put up a good fight. By half time the team was in despair with the score line getting further and further out of reach. Harbour had a formidable lead of 38 - 18 and things didn't look any better. The captain asked his players to step up and Coach Tai demanded they take responsibility for their actions and show Harbour that we were not intimidated and weren't going to back down. With these principles in mind team members Mateo Westerlund and Michael Tuala put their bodies on the line and gave everything they had to change the coarse of the game. Top defence from Keenan Le'au'anae and Walter Upoko proved to be the difference as Waitak went on to win the game in a awsome display of courage and heart taking out Habour 47 - 43 limiting Harbour to a dismal 5 points in the last 2 quarters.

"Well done guys.......you showed great courage"

Game 2   Vs Auckland White (non-comp)

Game 2 seemed to be a mismatch of size.....a david and goliath battle of strengh. It was a chance for the team to work on certain aspects of their game. The mood was set and the feeling was one of contention. The game started with a hiss and a roar with Auckland striking first with a huge lead of 17 - 3 in the first quarter. Energy levels were low due to the major effort against Harbour but the boys showed composer and continued to work through the pain and exhaustion. It was time for our second string players to take the lead and show their team mates that we were still in this game. The second string gave it their all and showed courage with punnishing defence from Lee Robinson and inspiring rebounding by Peter Mathews which just wasn't enough to contain Auckland with a 62 - 38 win over the boys.

The boys look to a great re-match this weekend against Auckland being a competition game. This time we will be ready to rumble.....and fresh!!....Yeah!!
