About The Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC)
The Badminton competition of the Melbourne 2005 Deaflympic Games will take place at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). MSAC is an international sporting venue, and is one of the only integrated sports and leisure complexes of its type in Australia. The venue will host eight sports during the Melbourne 2005 Deaflympics Games, allowing competitors and visitors to get a taste of some of the other sports being contested without having to travel.
MSAC is situated on the Albert Park Lake, 4.5 km from the Central Business District.
MSAC was host to the 2002 World Masters Games, and will be one of the key venues for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Currently MSAC is undergoing a $50 million upgrade including a new 50m outdoor pool in preparation for the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships.

About Badminton
Badminton will utilise 9 badminton courts and one Centre Court with temporary seating in the Badminton Hall.
The Badminton Hall has a Dry Court Hardwood surface.
Equipment: Yonex brand shuttlecocks - Olympic Grade Shuttle, AS 50's for competition and AS 40's for Pre Games Training.
Seating: 144 (Centre Court)
Air conditioning: No (Ventilation only)
Scoreboard: Yes (Manual Score Cards on each court)
Official Pre Games Training
2-5 January 2005 - For more details, refer to Pre Games Training Overview included with this handbook. Limited shuttlecocks will be supplied so players are required to bring their own shuttlecocks for Pre Games Training.
Warm Up
For the Teams Event there are warm up courts programmed into the event schedule.
For the Individual Event there will be three minutes available on the competition courts prior to the start of each game.
Games Time Training
A limited amount of courts will be available on selected days during competition. All ten courts will be available for training on the rest day on Monday January 10. A booking sheet will be on site to allocate courts during the Games.

Additional Information
Teams and players should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to their scheduled starting time to assist with the checking in process.
A user pays racquet repair/restringing service will be available.
Teams Event - The preliminary rounds will be run in a round robin format. Each match will be timed. Each match will be given 4 hours on the allocated court, there will be some spare courts if matches are destined to be running over time.
