Event Details
The Arafura Games weightlifting competition will be staged over 3 days and will incorporate the Oceania Paralympic Championships in powerlifting and the Commonwealth Junior Weightlifting Championships. Competition will begin on Sunday 13 May and conclude on Tuesday 15 May 2007.
The following weight divisions will be contested in the able body competition:
Men 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and 105+kg
Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg and 75+kg
The competition is a bi-athlon with competitors competing in two lifts - the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. Each lifter will have three attempts at each discipline and the aggregate will determine the winner in each division.
The Oceania Paralympic Championships for Powerlifting is open to athletes with physical disabilities, who compete in combined weight classes for both men and women. Competitors only participate in bench press.
In powerlifting, athletes with amputations and other (Les Autres) disabilities can compete together against athletes with Cerebral Palsy, Wheelchair Athletes and short-stature athletes (dwarfs).
Event Venue
The Arafura Games 2007 Weightlifting competition will be held in the Studio of the Darwin Entertainment Centre. The Studio is a very flexible venue, able to seat 290 spectators in an amphitheatre style layout, with excellent amenities and plenty of space for practise areas.

International Weightlifting Federation Rules will apply.
Qualifying standards are as set out by each National Federation.
To become eligible in International Powerlifting competition, the athletes have to meet minimum disability criteria as outlined in the relevant publications of International Sport Organisation for the Disabled (ISOD), and ISMWSF.

How much will transport cost?
The Arafura Games Organisers will provide bus transfers for all teams on arrival and departure in Darwin. An official Games shuttle bus service will operate free of charge between accommodation houses and training and competition venues for all accredited participants.
What about accommodation for my team and officials?
Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues. Accommodation bookings can be made through the Arafura Games Bedbank.
