Event Details
Water Polo was first played at the inaugural Arafura Sports Festival in 1991 with just three teams. Since 1993, participating teams have represented countries from the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Brunei and Australian country regional teams from New South Wales, Western Australia, and Queensland, the Australian Combined Defence Force and the Northern Territory.

The competition is a round robin event with finals played over six days from Sunday 15th to Friday 20th May.

There are separate divisions for men and women.

The competition will be at the Palmerston Pool, just 25 minutes drive from the Darwin central business district.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost?
There is no registration fee for the Arafura Games. However, you are responsible for costs associated with your air travel, accommodation and daily living expenses. Arafura provides transport to and from the airport and to all venues from most accommodation venues. Arafura accreditation also provides free transport on all Darwin buses.

When can our team train?
Teams are scheduled for training between the hours of 8-10am and 7-9pm daily, with two teams training simultaneously. Contact the coordinator to find out more.

Can we provide a referee?
Yes, certainly, all teams are encouraged to provide a referee and officials. It is important to provide details in advance to allow clearance from the Australian Water Polo federation. Subject to expressions of interest, a referee seminar may also be held.
