General Information about the Arafura Games
Arafura Games Eligibility
To compete in the Arafura Games 2005, sporting teams must represent a city, provincial or state association. In addition, from the same region a university or combined universities team may compete, as well as a services team (eg. Police, Fire, Ambulance).
National teams are also eligible to compete and may represent the nation as a national team, junior team or development team. To ensure equitable competition and balance of numbers from countries, the organisers reserve the right to make arbitrary decisions as to whether to accept national teams. This will be done in consideration of the fundamental principle of the Games: "Developing the world's elite athletes".
This means that Taekwondo competitors who have world or national ranking will be entered as invitational positions and should they place they will only receive an invitational medal as opposed to an Arafura Games medal. The Arafura Games medal will therefore be issued on a count back system and, to the competitors who have no world or national ranking. Teams must have the endorsement of the supreme governing body at state or national level. This is on page eight (8) of the accreditation form.
Australia will be represented by the High Performance Development Team of Taekwondo Australia, consisting of eight (8) female positions and eight (8) male positions, two for each weight division. Further invitational positions, for competitors who have world or national rankings, are available for Australian competitors.
Each other country, nation, combined services or university teams can only enter four (4) females and four (4) males, one (1) for each weight division. Further female and male positions may be provided. In addition, further invitational positions, for competitors who have world or national rankings, are available for other country, nation, combined services or university teams.
For those competitors who have a world or national ranking, please write in your world or national ranking as a number in the team/state box of the competition entry form. For example:
Team / State: Australia N1 = National 1Ranking
Or
Team / State: Australia W3 = World 3 Ranking
Or
Team / State: Australia = No Ranking
No Games' entry fees will be charged for individuals or teams. However, special fees for protests and arbitration will apply. Details are available at the tournament.
