International Lifesaving rules will apply for the selected events and these can be found on the ILS website www.ilsf.org or by contacting us at slsnt@dhl.com and we can e-mail a set to you
We will be using fibreglass fins as specified in the ILS rules and as we only have a limited number of these it is recommended that competitors bring their own. We purchase ours through Sebakfins and they can found on the WEB at http://www.sebakfins.com/
The manikin will be as specified in the ILS rules and these will be supplied.
There will be team training allocated prior to the events to allow teams to become familiar with the equipment used and coaching workshops for team coaches.
The water temperature in Darwin in May is approx 26-28 degrees and the open water will be flat. It is recommended that stinger suits be worn for the open water events due to the possible presence of box jellyfish in the water. The local Surf Clubs use stinger suits for their competition and we can give more information on this if required.
Specialized Craft is required for board and ski events - these can be sourced by prior arrangement with Surf Life Saving Northern Territory.
The competition covers a wide range of events and the team structure is teams of 8 - 4 male and 4 female.
A full competition outline with team compositions and requirements will be available closer to Games time. The Northern Territory is able to assist overseas teams in filling their team quota as long as they have at least 50% of the number required (ie 4).
Pool manikins and resuscitation manikins will be as specified in the ILS rules and will be supplied. Teams will be allocated training time prior to events to become familiar with the equipment used. Workshops will also be run for coaches and official prior to the start of competition, with practical officiating experience being provided throughout the competition for the completion of the course.
Competitors must hold a current Bronze Medallion rescue award or an equivalent lifesaving award to be eligible to compete in the pool events.
