Competition Program
Two NT teams will play Australian Rules Football (or AFL) against Japan. One team is NT Buffaloes, made up predominantly of players from the Darwin area and the other team, NT Crocodiles, predominantly players from the Palmerston and Rural area.
Program of matches are as follows:
Monday 14th May 6-30pm Japan vs NT Buffaloes
Tuesday 15th May 6-30pm Japan vs NT Crocodiles
Thursday 17th May 5-30pm Japan vs NT Buffaloes
Friday 18th May 7-00pm Japan vs NT Crocodiles
Event Details
Australian Rules Football will be included in the Arafura Games 2007 as a demonstration sport. In the past some very exciting games have been played which include visiting teams from Japan and PNG.
The format for Australian Football competition will be played with four seventeen minute quarters (no time on). The duration of intervals for qualifying matches is four minutes at quarter time, twelve minutes at half time and six minutes at three quarter time.
Event Location
All matches will be played at TIO Stadium formerly Marrara Oval, within the Marrara Sporting Complex. The facility, which is also the venue for the Arafura Games Opening Ceremony, has lighting and spectator seating for in excess of 12,000.
Event Rules
Matches will be played in accordance with the Australian Football League Laws of Australian Football. Teams are invited to provide a field umpire for the panel of umpires for the championship.
