Event Details
The Track and Field competition will be held over 4 evenings under lights - Sunday 13th, Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of May at the Arafura Stadium, centrally located at the Marrara Sporting Complex. This facility is fully equipped with photo-finish and electric timing. There are large change rooms, accessible amenities and a canteen at the stadium and athletes will have access to these facilities for training before and during the games except for competition times.
A complete timetable of events will be available closer to the start date of the Games.
The Arafura Games will be conducted according to the rules of the International Amatuer Athletic Association (IAAF) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the published supplementary rules. Qualifying standards will not apply to AWD events in 2007. Athletes are required to have their entry endorsed by their governing body.
Open implement weights apply to all field events for each classification and all participating athletes must have had their 15th birthday before the first day of the Games (Saturday 12th May).
All athletes and classifications will compete in multi-disability events for Arafura Games medals (ambulant and wheelchair track and ambulant and seated throws).
Entrance too finals and medal calculations will be based on the highest percentage of World Records for each class as at May 1st, 2007. Winners in combined seated field events will be calculated using the 2007-2008 IPC point scoring system.
Classification will be available prior to the Games for athletes with physical disabilities only. Athletes with an Intellectual Disability should be registered with AUSRAPID (Australians) or INAS-FID (non-Australians). Hearing Impaired athletes should be affiliated or registed with a state, national or international deaf sporting organisation.
Oceania Paralympic Championships
Only athletes that hold an an official IPC classification will be available to be awarded the Oceania paralympic Championship medals. The highest 3 ranked athletes in the final calculated aginst their classifications World Record (with a maximum of 2 per country and 1 per country for relay events) will be presented medals.
