The Western Jets were pleased to see two players make the final list for Vic Metro who will play in the NAB U18 National Championships in the last week of June. Five players from the Western Jets were originally selected in the Vic Metro Training Squad: Nathan Black, Bachar Houli, Cameron Lockwood, Nathan Lyons and Rhyce Prismall. Ruckman Will Sullivan was later added to the squad after some strong performances for the Jets. Gaining selection in the training squad is a great achievement in itself and recognises the talent and dedication that these players possess.
Gaining selection in the final squad of 25 allows players to participate in the highest attainable level of underage football (the National Championships). This is a great honour and the Western Jets congratulate Bachar Houli and Rhyce Prismall who were the two players from the region to gain selection.
Houli is a midfielder/forward with uncanny goal sense who played his junior football with Spotswood. In 2004 he captained the Vic Metro Under 16 team and won the MVP award for that squad. In 2005 Bachar was desperately unlucky to miss the National Championships. In that year he gained selection in the final squad but was diagnosed with stress fractures to the back on the eve of the tournament and missed the remainder of the season. This year he has overcome more bad luck with injury to be a part of the 2006 Vic Metro squad.
Prismall played his early football with Werribee Juniors mainly as a forward. In 2005 Rhyce represented Vic Metro in the Under 16 National Championships. His work over pre season has allowed Rhyce to move into a midfield role with the Western Jets where he has spent more and more time. One of the Jets' most consistent performers and a regular goal kicker, Rhyce has done very well to gain selection in the Vic Metro squad as a bottom aged (17 year old) player.
