The U/18 Interleague game was played at Highgate Reserve in Craigeburn on Thursday evening. The venue is a first class facility and the players were looking forward to the experience. The game started at a cracking pace with the EDFL side kicking an early goal. The game then developed into an arm wrestle until the EDFL side stepped it up a level and powered away towards the end of the 1st quarter.
This was to be the pattern for the rest of the game where the WRFL would prove competitive for a period of time and then fall away. The EDFL side proved to be too big , too strong and too good. The WRFL side to their credit at no stage stopped trying and their discipline and endeavour was fantastic. Once again the WRFL players conducted themselves extremely well and represented the WRFL proudly.

Match Report
WRFL V RDFL
The game got of to a flier with the WRFL boys taking the game on and being aggressive and first at the ball. In reasonable conditions at Doutta stars we snatched victory with a 7 goal win. We dominated at the centre bounces with Brandyn Disisto winning every tap giving the important first ball opportunity to our midfielders with Baydyn Kitchen and the Captain Mark Galea dominating their midfield roles. Our forwards were quite dominating led by Harrison Brocke who just won every contested mark and ground level ball helping us win the important scoreboard pressure. Our defence was playing in front with Jordan Robinson winning the aerial contests and Matthew Wright winning ground level ball penetrating it out to our wingers and midfield. Kallum Dawson and Luke Beddoe were running all day with good efforts defensive and offensive. To get a win like that is just fantastic for all the players and parents who turned up on the day which I must say I was really rapt with the support we had.
WRFL V EDFL
With only a 15 minute break we were back into it with the match against the EDFL. The EDFL boys had not played a match prior to this one which gives them the added value of fresh legs.
The match was a game of attrition with many skills on display with in and under football, with fierce tackling pressure a highlight of the clash. The EDFL boys had to many key position match winners all over the ground that really won them the contest. Our boys just couldn’t match the skills of the EDFL key position players as they won all the aerial contests and moved the ball very cleanly and with precision. It was a highlight to watch. Our defence was working overtime with the ball in our defensive 50 constantly. Jordan Robinson and Josh Grabham can hold their heads up high with some great defensive work. Our boys stuck on gamely but the heavy legs were taking its toll with our boys just not being able to run with them. To our boys credit there were some great team plays and efforts overall and we definatly made them work hard for their win. Overall the WRFL boys worked extremely hard and deserved a better reward for their efforts, we ended up going down by 7 goals but they can all lift their heads as it was a great effort by all.
