The Batemans Bay AFL Recreational Football mixed twilight competition will start on Monday 12 November at Hanging Rock Oval; so get your registrations in today.
"Rec Footy" has been developed to provide all members of the general community the chance to enjoy participating in a modified game that has strong parallels with the traditional game.
AFL Recreational Football is designed so that everyone can play. It is less physically demanding, has a minimal time commitment with no risk of serious injury with a major emphasis on fun and safety. Played in a friendly social environment, the game enables people of all ages and ability levels to participate.
The game is totally non-contact and is played between two teams of eight with an unlimited number of interchange players, on a field with a maximum length of 100 metres by 50 metres wide. The Batemans Bay competition will be a mixed team format with each team required to have three female players on the field at all times and a maximum of two Batemans Bay Sea Eagles players on each team. Every team will need to supply an umpire on a rotating basis. Rules are simple and will be explained each week. The cost of the competition will be $40.00 per team per week and games are 40 minutes in length and there will be two time slots; 5:45pm and 6:30pm.
The Recreational Football philosophy is to provide a fun, social and safe recreational community experience that encourages participation. It is a sport the whole family can play, in other competitions established around the country there have been teams that have included Mum, Dad, and their teenage kids in one team, while other competitions have had a team of parents going head to head with a team of their children.
AFL Recreational Football is fun, safe and inclusive and encourages development and participation whilst developing the skills of Australian Football. Importantly it promotes health and fitness in the community and it really is a game everyone can play. The competition will be coordinated and run by AFL staff, and the official competition will kick off on Monday 12 November commencing at 5.45pm.
The AFL are currently calling on interested members of the community who would like to form a team or would like more information, please phone AFL (NSW/ACT) Development Manager, John Dyball on 0411 226 086.
