The Sapphire Coast AFL has named extensive junior representative trial squads in the lead up to the Shoalhaven Junior Carnival in July.
'It is extremely exciting that we have received so many player nominations accross the four grades as it shows the great work clubs are doing in the junior space and the talent coming through the ranks to represent our league' Football Operations Coordinator Jarrod Moore said.
The under 12 and youth girls squads will get together for three sessions whilst the under 14.5's and under 17's will get together for four sessions as the coaches aim to trim and select their best possible squad for the carnival.
The under 12 squad will once again be under the guidance of Doug Martyn who brings plenty of experience to the role having been involved in the program in past years and is highly regarded by his peers. Claiming back to back junior coach of the year status whilst in charge of the Merimbula Diggers under 13's.
The under 14.5's will be looking to go back to back as champions in 2016 having claimed a remarkable overtime grand final win in 2015. The squad will be once again guided by Pambula's Glen Baker as he searches for his thrid consecutive carnival victory.
The under 17 squad will be led by Merimbula's Danny Adams who has the Diggers firing on all cylinders in 2016. In his first taste of representative coaching, Adams will have a good squad at his disposal and the under 17's will be looking to make it back to back carnival victories.
In 2016 the Youth girls will feature on all 3 days of the carnival with the Sapphire Coast and Shoalhaven Juniors coming together to further enhance female football in 2016.
'Having Baker, Adams and Martyn taking guidance of our junior teams in 2016 is absolutelty fantastic with the three having great experience and success in their coaching careers. Having these guys in place sets us up well for success at the Shoalhaven Carnival. Last year was really exciting in the youth girls space without a women's competition so I am extremely excited to see the improvement of the Sapphire Coast girls this year. Having the competition established this year we see some new faces to the Youth Girls squad which is really exciting for the growth of women's football' Moore said.
