On Thursday, 28 April, at Hanging Rock Oval, Batemans Bay, 85 students tried out for the South Coast Tunas selection trials to compete in the All School State Carnival from 31 May to 2 June at Pennant Hills in Sydney.
In the first match, combined Eden Marine High School and Bega High School - the Far South Coast, played Queanbeyan/Goulburn and won a closely fought encounter 7.5 - 47 to 4.11 - 35. In the second match of the day, Nowra/Wollongong defeated Batemans Bay/Moruya, who were also defeated in the third match by Queanbeyan/Goulburn. In the grand final of the day, our Far South Coast team defeated Nowra/Wollongong 6.7 - 43 to 2.6 - 18, to be undefeated on the day.
Many thanks to John Dyball and AFL NSW/ACT Commission for umpiring and providing 4 footballs, 2 hats and 2 tee-shirts for awards, Sapphire Coast AFL for their support of the Far South Coast team, and Batemans Bay Seahawks for providing use of the oval, amenities and canteen.
Players for the Far South Coast team were Anthony Cincotta, Harley Cox, Ky Crane, Ben Jabornik, Matt Grant, Morgan Jackson, Ngatiwai Hetaraka, Jarrod May, Ben Maher, Luke Martin, Ryde Pennefather, Josh Schafer, Guy Shill, Liam Wilkinson and Nik Swiridiuk.
Six Far South Coast players gained selection in the South Coast Tunas - Liam Wilkinson, Ben Jabornik, Luke Martin, Ngatiwai Hetaraka, Morgan Jackson and Anthony Cincotta.
A great effort by the Far South Coast team and congratulations to all players, in particular those selected to go on to the All School State Carnival.
