Round Preview
Bermagui V Pambula
A big match for Pambula this weekend as they will look to show that they are still a force in 2016 as they take on the Breakers in Bermagui. The last time these two clubs met the Breakers matched the Panthers for a half before being blown out of the water in the third term. After a disappointing loss last week against the Diggers, last years premiers now sit in third position on the ladder with the side looking to work their way back into the top two. Bermagui is still looking for their first win of the year and will have confidence going into this matchup after their last performance against the Panthers. Player to Watch: Jake Taylor, the Panthers ruckman is extremely versatile with effectiveness all over the field. Is primed for a big game. Prediction: Pambula by 49 points.
Eden v Narooma
A big weekend for the Eden Football Club. The club has four home games and will be looking to put on a good display for their home supporters. The Lions come into this match comfortably in fourth place and will look to increase their lead over the bottom two sides with a win. The Lions have often fielded a below full strength side when in Eden in recent seasons so it will be interesting to see who takes the field for the Lions on Saturday. With the Lions looking to make some noise in the finals in 2016 this is a must win. Player to Watch: Jack Clothier, In and out of the Lions line-up due to being in Wollongong, Clothier is a key player when in the line up. Being able to play all forward positions and through the middle, Clothier has the potential to change a match with his tenacity and skill around the contest. Prediction: Narooma by 53 points.
Women’s
Couple of big games in the women’s competition this weekend with Bermagui hosting Pambula in what could be the match of the round. Last time these two met the game went down to the wire with Pambula snatching a thrilling win. The Breakers look like they will be at full strength this weekend with coach Prue Davies back from holidays and looking to lead the Breakers to a win and edge into third place on the ladder. In the second match of the weekend the Lions will aim to draw level on points again with Bermagui and give themselves a great chance of making the finals in 2016. The Whalers were impressive last weekend as they pushed ladder leaders Tathra/Bega to a close match. Eden will be hoping to consolidate second place on the ladder. Player to Watch: Hayley Spink, Still in high school the young whaler is hard at the contest and tough to beat one on one. Prediction: Eden & Pambula
Under 16’s
This weekend Bermagui host Pambula in the under 16’s. The Panthers are red hot favourites to claim the premiership in 2016 after a good tough win against Merimbula last weekend away from home. The Panthers core players in the midfield are from the Panther mould being tough competitive players in and around the contest. Although the Breakers were beaten last weekend, they had patches throughout the contest against Narooma where they were on top whilst taking their chances up forward. If Bermagui is going to be in the contest they will need to overcome their lapses in concentration. Player to Watch: Brock Lazzaro, The Bermagui forward kicked four last weekend against Narooma with one in contention for goal of the year. Lively up front. Prediction: Pambula.
Under 13’s
Three matches in the under 13’s this weekend and all look pretty straight forward although anything can happen in football. The undefeated Breakers take on the Panthers at home this weekend after a tense and thrilling win last weekend over the Lions. The Breakers have been super impressive in 2016 although the Panthers will be looking to ruin their undefeated season. Down south the Lions will be looking to get back on the winners list against Bega/Tathra who have had a week off to rest and recoup after the win against the Giants. Last weekend the Diggers played a close game against the Giants and with the game in Tuross this weekend the score could very well get closer. Player to Watch: Charlie Buckingham, Has been Merimbula’s best player so far in 2016 and his stellar form has seen him earn a jersey for the Stingrays under 14.5’s. Prediction: Bermagui, Merimbula & Narooma.
Under 11’s
Some big games this weekend in the under 11’s with very even teams going up against each other. Top of the table clash as Bermagui host Pambula in what should be the match of the round. Will be tightly contested with both clubs highly impressive so far in 2016. In Tuross the Giants will be looking to get revenge on the Diggers who claimed a huge win last weekend to move into third on the ladder. With a tight race from 2nd to 5th wins from now are huge. In Eden the Whalers have a huge chance to get their first win of the year against the Lions who boast a number of underage players in 2016. Prediction: Bermagui, Eden & Giants.
