MOREE Suns played the last home game of the season against the Narrabri Eagles at the weekend.
Unfortunately, down one player due to injury, the Suns lost by 44 points.
SKIPPER: Suns captain Nick O’Sullivan suffered an injury during the loss to Narrabri.
In the first quarter Narrabri scored three late goals.
President, David MacLellan, said it was a very disappointing start.
“We came out after quarter time very flat,” MacLellan said.
“Narrabri came out after quarter time full of energy; they were very accurate with their goal kicking.”
Midway thought the second quarter the Sun’s saw their fearless leader,
Nick O’Sullivan, dislocate his patella. There was a 10 minute delay as O’Sullivan was stretchered off.
The Suns played flat through the rest of the quarter.
“The team struggled to see Nick in pain. At half time the players were asked if they were ready to stand up and fight for Nick,” MacLellan said
The Suns then returned fire with five goals to three. “Narrabri Todd Fagan was a nightmare all day as full forward. Great mark and great kicker was just unstoppable,” MacLellan said.
Dom Brown, Robert Kemp and Alec McCall were all outstanding in the middle of the ground. Matt Lather showed how talented he was with three brilliant goals, according to MacLellan.
A large crowd made up of fans and sponsors cheered the team on.
On September 5, the last game in Gunnedah will round out a very promising first season.
The Suns thank Cross Roads Youth Group who ran water to the players, collected donations and ran the canteen, and were all very vocal in their support.
The donations were for Nigel McIntosh and raised more than $165. McIntosh is a local youth who has cancer and is completing a bucket list.
