No.1 Oval in Tamworth is where the feathers were flying between the Swans and the Eagles. The Eagles went into this game looking to get their mojo back, unfortunately for them that didn't happen. This result means that there is only two games difference between these two. A quick look at the ladder shows that the Swans are a very faint chance to tip the Eagles out of the top five. Where there is a pulse there is life but the Swans will need to win all three of their games left and hope that the Eagles only win one maximum. The first quarter in this game was even with both teams kicking 2 goals each. The second quarter is where the Swans got their match winning lead. They kicked 4 goals to the Eagles 1 goal, but they also kicked 7 behinds for the quarter that had they converted better would have given them a much bigger lead than the 25 points they had at the main break. The Eagles outscored the Swans in the third quarter, but it was only by 2 points. While they held the Swans to just 1 goal they could only manage 1 goal themselves. Both teams kicked 3 goals in the last quarter with the Swans winning the quarter courtesy of the 5 behinds they kicked to the Eagles 1 behind to take out the game by 27 points. The Swans best player was Andrew James and Simon Freer kicked 5 goals for them. For the Eagles Paul Bushby was their best and as yet I do not have the goal kickers for the Eagles.
The Nomads travelled down to the Cattery determined not to drop this game and stay on track to try and run down the Kangaroos. In the first quarter the Nomads put their stamp on the game by kicking 6 goals and holding the Cats to 3 goals to have an 18 point lead at the first break. The Cats were more furious in the second quarter outscoring the Nomads 3 goals to 2 goals. The Nomads had their chances though kicking 6 behinds for the quarter but still lead by 17 points at the long break. The third quarter is where the Nomads cut loose and out playing the young Cats kicking 5 goals to 2 goals and increase their lead to 36 points at the last break. Nomads Coach, Brendan Meehan, would not be happy with the Nomads last quarter as the Cats outscored them, all be it by just 3 points, and he will be telling them that they can't afford to drop off like that against teams like the Kangaroos. For the Cats though the last quarter was another huge step forward as they showed their Coach Bryce O'Connor that he is on the right track. The Nomads Dave Richards was their best player and major goal kicker with 7 goals. For the Cats their best player was Beau Dixon and Stu McAdam kicked 5 goals.
The match of the round was at the Kennel between the Bulldogs and the Kangaroos. The first quarter was a quarter of missed opportunities for both teams as the Bulldogs could only manage 5 behinds and the Kangaroos were slightly straighter with 2 goals and 5 behinds. In the second quarter the Bulldogs straightened up kicking 5 goals straight. Unfortunately for them the Kangaroos slotted 6 goals out of their 14 shots on goal to take a 26 point lead into the main break. The Kangaroos continued their onslaught in the third quarter kicking 5 goals to 2 goals and extend their lead to 48 points at the last break. The last quarter was all the Kangaroos as they kept the Bulldogs goalless but they couldn't take advantage of their onslaught as they only converted 2 shots of the 10 shots on goal that they had, giving them a 65 point win. This would not have made Coach Cotter very happy but considering they are without Cotter and Overeem on the field at the moment it is understandable. Peter Chapman would have been disappointed with his team after the game as this was a good opportunity for them to see if they have what it takes come finals time. They can still turn this around but they now know what it is going to take. The Kangaroos leading goal kicker was again Cam Douglas with 5 goals and their best player was Alex Hudson. For the Bulldogs their best player was John Woolaston and their main goal scorer was Mark Ewington with 3 goals.
