The Essential Energy Tamworth AFL held its presentation night on Saturday night the 20th, August.
The night started with a greeting from MC Dave Chapman Followed by an address by President Adrian Walsh.
Andrew Knott from AFL NSW/ACT made the trip up from Sydney to present a number of awards. The first award was the Coach of the year Award which went to the Tamworth Kangaroos Tim Cotter. Next was the Volunteer of the Year Award which went to long serving Tamworth Swans President and EETAFL Secretary Josh McKenzie. The last award he presented was the Quality Clubs Program Award Bronze Level to the Muswellbrook Cats.
Next the vote count started and after the first 5 rounds the Eagles Tim Cooper was in the lead with 6 votes, closely followed by his team mate Mark Barrow, the Swans Gavin Knee and the Nomads Dave Richards on 5 votes.
During the first break of the night the Southern Cross Ten Rising Star Award was presented to the Nomads sensational recruit Dave Richards. This was followed by the Sporting Pulse Award which is given to the player that the Coaches choose in their best players each week. This year it went to the Cats Scott Bailey.
We then went into the next round of voting from round 6 to round 10. At the end of round 10 the leader board saw Dave Richards from the Nomads on 10 votes. He was followed by Matt Hodge, Kangaroos, and Paul Brown, Bulldogs, on 9 Votes. The others still in contention were Mark Barrow, Eagles, 8 votes and Chris Whitton, Saints, 7 Votes.
In the last break the Umpire of the Year Award was awarded to the best umpire of year voted on by the clubs and this year it went Lindsay Brash. Lindsay is a past winner of this award was has had another consistent season. Then the Gerry Griffiths Medal for the highest goal kicker of the year was awarded. This went to first year Eagle Tim Cooper. Tim kicked 9 goals in the game against the Cats and this gave him 50 goals from 7 games.
Last were the final four rounds of voting and going in to the last round there was two players in contention with the Kangaroos Matt Hodge on 14 votes followed by the Bulldogs Paul Brown on 12 votes. Hodge did not play the last round and stayed on 14 votes. Brown did play and was award 2 votes in his game against the Saints giving him 14 votes. Shortly after the last votes were given Paul Brown was presented with his Tony Gillies Medal and Kangaroo President Shane Douglas accepted Matt Hodge's medal as he was not present. These two were closely followed by the Eagles Tim Cooper on 11 votes and then came Dave Richards, Nomads, Chris Whitton, Saints, and Cam Douglas, Kangaroos, all on 10 votes.
