In the first game of the double header at Tamworth's NO. 1 Oval the Swans held onto their top spot by beating the Nomads. The Nomads were without their star Weston Whitby for the game, but kicked the opening goal of the game. The Swans were a little sloppy with their use of the ball early, but hit back in the latter part of the quarter. The Nomads did take a nice little 5 point lead into the quarter time break. The Swans clicked into gear in the second quarter with their running of the footy and having their back line stand up to the Nomads attacks. The Nomads backline was peppered however and the Swans had a 14 point lead at half time. The third quarter was another tight one with neither team getting right on top. While the Nomads held the Swans to just 2 goals for the quarter their only goal came late in the quarter after ill discipline from the Swans Andrew Donohue saw him given a yellow card then a red card and sent from the field for the rest of the game. The Swans increased their lead slightly at three quarter time to lead by 17 points. With the Swans a man down for the last quarter this was the Nomads greatest chance of being the only team in the CETAFL to beat the Swans twice for the year. But the Swans stretched their lead to 6 goals before the Nomads could take advantage of their extra man on the ground and when they did get a role on it was a bit too late with the Swans winning by 14 points. Simon Freer kicked 4 goals for the Swans and despite being sent off they named Andrew Donohue as their best player. The Nomads named Johnathon Frost as their best player and their goal kickers were lead by Captain Matty Maxwell with 3 goals.
Down at the Cattery the Struggling Cats were hoping to put some pressure on the Bulldogs and force them into mistakes. Alas it was not to be with the Bulldogs jumping the Cats in the first quarter kicking 9 goals straight to the Cats 3 goals giving them a match winning lead at quarter time of 35 points. The Bulldogs put the foot down in the second quarter but had they kicked as straight in this quarter as they did in the first then their percentage would have gone through the roof. For the quarter the Bulldogs kicked 6 goals 8 behinds to the Cats 2 Goals Straight giving the Bulldogs a lead of 67 points at the long break. The third quarter saw the Bulldogs get their radar slightly back on track kicking 6 goals 5 behinds to the Cats 1 goal 3 behinds to have a 105 point lead going into the last quarter. It was a case of more of the same for the Bulldogs in the last quarter against the gallant Cats to run out winners by 139 points and almost cement themselves in the top two on the ladder. The Bulldogs named Scott Hardy as their best player and their leading goal kicker was Shaun Higgins with 8. For the Cats Steven Nougher as their best player and he also lead their goal kickers with 3 goals.
In the second game of the double header the Kangaroos got the jump on the Saints. In their battle to try and break into the top 2 these two teams need to take any advantage they can and this time it was the Kangaroos winning the game and going 4 points clear of the Saints on the ladder. The first quarter was all the Kangaroos kicking 6 goals and keeping the Saints to just 1 goal to have lead of 32 points at quarter time. This set the theme of the day with the Kangaroos never giving up their lead at any stage. The second quarter saw the Saints fight back a bit but they were still outscored by 4 goals to 3 goals, giving the Kangaroos a lead of 36 points at the long break. The Saints needed to search within themselves at the long break if they were going to get back into the game in the third quarter. But the third quarter was pretty much a carbon copy of the second with the Kangaroos again kicking 4 goals to 3 goals to take a lead of 42 points into the last quarter. The Saints had more scoring shot then the Kangaroos in the last quarter and had they kicked straight then they might have put a scare into the Kangaroos. But the Saints could only manage 2 goals out of their 7 shots on goal, in comparison the Kangaroos kicked 3 goals from their 4 shots on goal to win by 44 points. The Kangaroos' Pat Walton kicked 5 goals and was named their best player and for the Saints Ben Lee was named as their best with Mick Viney kicking 5 goals and taking the lead for the Gerry Griffiths Medal on the goal kicking leader board.
